Relations between Greece and Turkey (1923–1930): From the Treaty of Lausanne to the Treaty of Friendship
Abstract.
Through the Treaty of Lausanne, Greece lost several territories to Turkey, namely Eastern Thrace, the islands of Imbros and Tenedos in the Aegean Sea, and the western part of Anatolia. The years following the conclusion of the Treaty of Lausanne were marked by disputes over the application of the Convention concerning the Exchange of Greek and Turkish Populations, also signed in the same Swiss city on 30 January 1923. There were numerous disputes between Greece and Turkey over how to implement the convention on the compulsory exchange of populations, and the Mixed Commission formed to deal with the issue had great difficulty in harmonizing the views of its Greek and Turkish members. In 1930, the two states managed to resolve their differences and signed a treaty of friendship.

Keywords: Treaty of Lausanne, population exchange, League of Nations, friendship treaty, frontiers.
